PD2: Save the Animals by Juliet196 PD2: Save the Animals by Juliet196
I am very proud of this design b/c I feel like Iíve done something very different from my usual view, but at the same time kept the look I like so much.

I had a very long process to come up with this particular look. The first idea I came up with was to do a sort of glamorous Mother Nature design. That lead me to a Grecian Goddess type look, but I did something similar for the last challenge and wanted something different. So then I decided that I could do more of a glamorous wood nymph with a sort of rainforest color palette.

The peach fabric is georgette with a loose fishingwire hem. The green fabric is satin brocade, or possibly a silk screened satin. Gold trim crisscrosses at the shoulder and down one side of the green brocade. Those are not funny looking bows, but butterflies, either satin, feather, or even brass.

I hope you like it as much as I do. Created for ~cjrogers1993 Project Designer Challenge.

*I changed the silk chiffon to georgette. I wasn't thinking about the fact that silk worms are killed to retrieve the best quality silk filaments. What's the point of saving the butterflies if i kill the silk worms.

I love your design! It's so beautiful, like a flower (with butterflies!). I love the color scheme you chose.

you know.... many people dont think of insects as being endangered... i know i dont... but there are a lot out there that are!
you may not have told us if those butterflies were modeled after an endangered species, BUT if in the future, they could be representing butterflies.
I really like the option of having brass butterflies... though it may be somewhat scary because they hang on very long strings/cords. If they were made of brass... would the finish be polished or brushed? (just trying to get an idea of it being shiny or matte)
Thank you sooo much for not choosing chiffon for this design. Ugh, it's so overused and cocky and I know that an ameteur would have chosen it for this design. But I love the fabrications you chose for this design. And it would work great in any occasion and season.

I really love long reviews, they are always appreciated. I imagine the brass to be polished b/c I got the idea from a collection of shiny brass butterflies that belongs to my grandmother. I like the brass idea best too, but I gave the option of other materials b/c of the potential for tangling, snagging, bodily harm, etc.

...I did choose chiffon for the design, at least for the peach part. HOWEVER, I would be happy to use georgette, or maybe even organza (might be too stiff though).

Thanks again for your thoughts, I really appreciate the positive feedback. (=

ahh yes, i guess i read it wrong, silk is what i paid attention to... hehe, normally I imagine chiffon to be of polyester, but the design works out great^^ I'm so used to see chiffon on top of beautiful fabric, it's nice that you have it a inner lining^^

I don't want to seem picky, but the hanging butterflies actually doesn't quite give off a "save the animals" feeling, but looks kinda like a couple dead butterflies used for decor. If the butterflies were incorporated into the design or pattern (embroidery? fabric print?) or the jewelry, it would come across clearly as the idea of respecting the butterfly and taking pride in its beauty. Otherwise, it's a lovely design. I do like how this has an antique gown look to it, without being dated. And the colors are very calming.

hehe, I see your point. What I was trying to convey was that the butterflies were flying, not an entomology display. I don't generally like using a butterfly theme b/c I think it's WAY overused. I actually really dislike fabrics with butterfly prints (personal preference). But butterflies were the only animal I kept coming to when trying to think of an animal theme that wouldn't be too cutesy/ridiculous.

I do appreciate your comments though, constructive criticism is always helpful. (=
